Vines in Franciacorta

There are several areas in Lombardia which are famous for producing quality wines. Here is a list in order of importance the best wines from Lombardia:

 

Franciacorta: champagne method sparkling wines, Burgundian style white wines and Bordeaux style red wines

Valtellina: Nebbiolo based red wines (Valtellina Superiore DOCG the top classification) (look for producers Ar Pe Pe, Sandro Fay, Nino Negri and Triacca); also a passito-style sweet wine called Sforzato

Oltrepò Pavese: red wine based on Barbera, Bonarda/Croatina and Uva Rara or Pinot Nero; sparkling wine (the champagne method has DOCG) made from Pinot Nero

Lugana: Trebbiano based white wines (look for producers Ca’ dei Frati and Zenato)
