I put together this page on resources to use when travelling or living in Italy so you can easily access the content needed in one place. Use this page to help you discover the best places to visit in Italy, how to find good accommodation, the best places to eat, how to order food and wine and more for any budget. Consider it a crash course in “doing as the Romans do”.

Let’s start with where to visit. This depends on what your interests are but if you click here there is a summary of the best places to visit for art, beaches, food, cities, wine, lakes, islands and skiing. Here are some extra off-the-beaten-track highlights.

NEST

Next up is where to sleep: hotels, apartments, holiday farms, bed and breakfasts, etc. I have a methodology I use when planning my trips which I share here.

INGEST

Now down to important matters, where to eat. Here are my top tips on finding excellent restaurants where the locals eat.

BEST

Concerned that you may find ordering in a local restaurant confusing?

  • On this page you can see how Italians navigate the different courses of a meal.
  • Here are translations of most national dishes and local regional dishes (select the relevant region- it’s at the bottom of the page).
  • Here is an outline to table manners at a restaurant or in someone’s home.
  • Find the names of the wines unfamiliar? Here are top apps to help you. Want to find the best value high quality wines, look no further, here is a guide. Also here is a guide to ordering together with a sommelier (written by a sommelier friend).
